the project
The Anne Kibbe Residency Program for Women is awarded annually to a creative who self-identifies as a woman, and wants to learn about digital arts and technology, and silkscreen printing. The goal of the residency is to provide resources, training and opportunities to help further develop their skills. This is done through access to FIG's facility, a stipend, and ongoing support. By offering the residency at no cost to the artist, FIG continues its commitment to contributing to a more accessible and equitable arts community.
the steps
June-July - FIG will reach out to its network of partner organizations to identify the 2023 residency recipient.
July - FIG will meet with recipient and teaching artist to go over a schedule, order supplies, and discuss the goals of the residency.
August -Oct. - The resident artist will work one on one with a FIG instructor and work independently in FIG's studio.
Nov.- Dec. - The resident artist will conduct an artist talk or demo, free to the public.
March - May 2024 - the resident artist's work, created during their time in FIG, will be featured in FIG's Annual Women Who Print exhibition.
why we're doing it
FIG offers this program free to an artist each year. By offering the program at no cost to the creative, FIG provides opportunities to those who may not have been able to receive training because of financial barriers. Women are still generally paid less and receive less recognition for their contributions to the art community, this residency is one step in providing more equitable access to resources and development.
