The season 9 (S9) finale of the Battle of Teal art showcase will be hosted in Cleveland.
On May 17, 2024, our opening reception is scheduled from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and will be hosted at Future Ink Graphics - FIG (located at The Pivot Center for Art, Dance, and Expression). Visual artworks of past and present K 12 student showcase participants will be installed and exhibited in the space for seven days for the entire community to see. Visitors can grab light refreshments, walk the art gallery, meet some student artists, and enjoy “unplugged” entertainment from K-12 students.
The application process for the Battle of the Teal art showcase remains to be available online. All Ohio K 12 students can submit their applications. The last date to submit applications is April 30, 2024. GOOGLE APPLICATION.
We created this platform as an outlet for youth to use their artistic expressions to engage and connect with the community and their peers. Art is a great way to channel emotions and improve social-emotional wellness. Plus, creativity is sought after by today’s employers.
the steps
- (now - February 29, 2024) - continue to promote the Battle of the Teal art showcase to schools across Northeast Ohio and via online channels.
- (Mar 1 - Apr 30, 2024) - assist with online showcase applications and host in-person auditions, per request.
- (April 1 - May 10, 2024) - communicate with past and present art showcase participants about the opportunity to showcase their art during this event.
- (May 2 - May 12, 2024) - select the local division and category winners based on adjudication panel members’ review
- (May 13, 2024) - all visual art pieces must be dropped off at the FIG location.
- (May 17, 2024) - iN Education will host an opening gallery reception at FIG space between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
- (May 17 - May 20, 2024) - gallery available for public viewing at the Future Ink Graphic’s space at Pivot Center for the Arts, Dance, and Expression.
- (May 20 - May 31, 2024) - The gallery display will be taken down, and all students will be picking up their artwork from the FIG location.
why we're doing it
In 2016, we organized our first Battle of the Teal art showcase in the historic Masonic Temple in Cleveland, Ohio. The event witnessed fierce competition among 12 talented students from the inner city, and Courtney Owens emerged as the first winner.
Over the years, the Battle of the Teal art program has grown and evolved, thanks to the invaluable feedback and support from parents, educators, and students alike. We watched many other K-12 students showcase their artistic expressions during live events and online. We were fortunate to be able to reward their efforts with over $40,000 in scholarships, prizes, experiences, and other awards. After years of hosting the art showcase strictly virtually, we are excited to return to Cleveland with LIVE exhibits, performances, and much more!
