the project
The main objective of this year’s BCS Drama Fest – “Kichu Kichu Katha” is to bring in diverse and unique drama groups from and around Ohio to Cleveland and present the same to the community. Like many other forms of performing arts, Drama utilizes speech, dialogue, music and gesture to present a story in front of a greater audience. The drama fest would involve organizing 2-3 plays (each play ranging between 30-60 minutes) and a panel discussion analyzing the unique qualities of these drama groups. The festival will comprise of 2-3 plays from Cleveland, Chicago and Maryland including at least one in Bengali, which is an Asian language from eastern part of India and Bangladesh and is the sixth most popular language that is spoken in the world, one in Hindi (national language of India) and one in English. The panel discussion would include members of BCS community and other esteemed members of the Theater and Production community from Cleveland area. We plan to do the drama fest at Brecksville Middle School Auditorium. We aim to achieve a cultural immersion (by the artists), generate cross cultural awareness, interest and friendship between the artists and the audience through drama using BCS Drama Fest.
the steps
1) Finalize the venue for the Dramafest
2) Finalize the different theater groups for the Dramafest
3) Prepare for the home drama production from Cleveland which will be presented by Bengali Cultural Society.
4) Contact the different panelists and finalize the topic for discussion which will be held in between the plays.
why we're doing it
Theater as a form of performing art while sharing our story often illustrates elements of our culture artistically. often converge, one becoming the other and vice versa, but drama begins with the playwright and performance art begins with the visual artist. There is genuine enthusiasm among the performers to share the message and showcase the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Bengali culture toward a greater audience of Cleveland.
