the project

The Waterloo Arts Fest is a time for residents and visitors to see the Waterloo Arts District at its best. We want everyone to experience Waterloo Rd as a great city street, full of people and alive with art. To make this happen we follow a few guiding principles 1) fill the street lots of intriguing things to see and do to draw visitors along as they explore the district 2) have low stages throughout the event with no headliners and an eclectic mix of music that will appeal to a diverse group of people 3) combine food, art and community booths to mimic storefronts on a city street and 4) provide opportunities to explore open-ended creative activities that are engaging for all ages, 5) art, art and more art.

why we're doing it

Twenty years ago, when the festival was getting started, it wasn’t much more than a couple bands playing for a small audience in a parking lot but it brought residents together to improve their neighborhood through the arts. Each year the festival has grown but it has always remained grounded in community and fresh with local art. For seven hours each year, the Waterloo Arts Fest reminds residents and visitors of the many assets in the Waterloo Arts District, of the incredible potential still to be realized and how wonderful it is to live in a city neighborhood with a great mix of people.
