We invite you to support Wise Guy's Chess Club's Youth Summer Chess Program at the Parkman Branch Library—an enriching initiative that integrates chess with essential life skills. By donating or sponsoring, you'll help us empower young minds in literacy, communications, critical thinking, financial literacy, health & wellness, and more. Your contribution will enable us to provide a transformative summer experience where children not only learn chess strategies but also develop invaluable skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. the steps

With the generosity of our donors and sponsors, Wise Guy's Chess Club's Youth Summer Chess Program will expand its impact across multiple essential areas.

  • Weeks 1 and 2 (June 25, 2024 - July 4, 2024) students will focus on Literacy, communications, and critical thinking skills
  • Weeks 3 and 4 (July 9, 2024 - July 18, 2024) students will be introduced to financial literacy, health and wellness
  • Field trip July 11, 2024: Baseball game at Commercial Park 2100 Woodward, Detroit MI 48201 at 1:15pm
  • Weeks 5 and 6 (July 23, 2024 - August 1, 2024) to conclude the 6 week summer program, students will be introduced to culture awareness and yoga sound body and mind activities, create there own chess sets and prepare for final chess tournament for all students to compete with one another.

Your support will directly enhance literacy by providing books and educational materials, improve communications through workshops and interactive activities, and foster critical thinking skills with strategic chess lessons. Additionally, funds will enable us to introduce financial literacy sessions, promote health & wellness through physical activities and mindfulness exercises, and offer diverse enrichments that cultivate well-rounded development in our young participants. Your contribution ensures a summer filled with learning, growth, and empowerment for the children in our community.

why we're doing it

Wise Guy's Chess Club Youth Summer Camp in Detroit, Michigan, addresses critical social and economic challenges by providing a multifaceted educational program. By integrating chess with literacy, communication skills, critical thinking, financial literacy, and health & wellness, the program empowers local youth with vital life skills. In a city facing educational disparities and economic struggles, this initiative offers accessible and enriching activities that promote academic achievement, cognitive development, and personal growth.
